A Great Plan for a New OS
Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox internet browser, is now targeting the entry level smartphone market with it's ridiculously low priced $25 smartphone. That will be achieved with Mozilla's partnership with Spreadtrum, the provider of the cheap chipsets. The goal here is to penetrate the low-end market with Firefox OS, with a very cheap smartphone for new smartphone users to buy. Some of the countries Mozilla will partner with carriers to release Firefox OS include countries in Central America and Eastern Europe.

Alongside the $25 smartphone more handsets will be released with Firefox OS. The ZTE Open C, ZTE Open II, Alcatel Fire C, Fire E and Fire S. There will additionally be a tablet from Alcatel named Fire 7. Huawei is also releasing its first Firefox phone, the Huawei Y300. All the new devices will have Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. In addition to announcing all the new hardware, Mozilla promises LTE support, NFC support and dual SIM cards in the near future.

Mozilla is serious about its Firefox OS and takes steps in the right direction with the goal to reach new markets other than major competitors like Apple and Samsung are targeting. How people will embrace the Firefox OS depends on how committed the company is in improving and supporting it in the long term. There is potential, however time will tell.
