Google vs Apple Round 1 Nexus 7 vs Ipad Mini

These two are arguably the top 2 7 inch tablets in the market, the question is which one is the number 1? FIGHT!

Google Nexus 7

Nexus 7 the Asus built Google's baby is extremely fast and fluid thanks to the Tegra 3 quad core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and the 1GB of RAM. It can and will handle anything without problems or delays. It lacks a rear camera ( who takes pictures with a tablet anyway?), but it has a 1.2 MP front facing camera for video calls or Google+ hangouts. It comes in 16GB or 32GB of storage and the choice of 3g. Another advantage over the IPad Mini is NFC (near field communication) which makes the Nexus 7 even more future proof. It may not be as good looking as the iPad Mini but the screen is better looking. Let's not forget the best aspect, price. Starting at £160 pounds for the 16GB model it is definitely a huge plus.

 IPad Mini

Apple's smaller IPad is beautifully designed and is a premium build but despite its looks not much has changed. It has an outdated processor (same as the 2nd generation IPad) and a low resolution display with just 512MB of RAM. Despite the specs it performs well and it is speedy but it will be obsolete when the IPad Mini 2 comes out with higher specs and a Retina Display. On the other side though it excels in the app part of the deal as the App Store is flooded with apps. The IPad Mini has a rear facing 5MP camera though as the Nexus 7 does not. As for the OS the IPad Mini runs iOS 6 (it has become stale and needs a change), the Nexus 7 runs Jelly Bean 4.2 which has more customization options. Finally the price is pretty high £270 for the 16GB version.

The Verdict

The Nexus 7 is a clear winner here. As the IPad Mini has the looks and the premium build, the Nexus 7 delivers in every aspect of specs , as it has a faster processor more RAM, great portability and price. Especially the price, as you can get 2 Nexus 7 at the price of an IPad Mini. The Nexus 7 may not offer 4G at the moment or the huge amount of apps that the App store offers but it is the best deal for your money.

  1. They both have their advantages, but I guess it depends on your own opinion. There are people who can't live without anything that has an I- in front of it and there are others that just love Nexus!

  2. The time has come to look beyond the status quo Apple towards new vendors, which are cheap and provide if not the same but nearly equal satisfaction. Keep up the good work.

  3. Great article but the processor is clocked at 1.3GHz on Nexus 7
