Sony revealed the Project Morpheus, a VR (Virtual Reality) headset that has been developed for more than three years. The design is so futuristic and seems like it has been pulled out of a sci-fi movie, but that is how Sony designs gadgets and I like it. Sony has high hopes for this project and believes that in order to succeed they need to hit six areas:
- Sight
- Sound
- Tracking
- Control
- Ease of use
- Content
The display is an LCD 1080p screen and offers a 90 degree field of view. For the most part Morpheus matches the specs of the Oculus Rift, however Oculus has a larger field of view (100 degrees) and an OLED screen. Sony did a good job so far and I can say that their VR Headset is good competition for the Oculus Rift. Competition is always a good thing between companies as it forces the companies to innovate and put more effort in their work.

In my opinion the success of project Morpheus will rely heavily on the support of the development community. If Sony manages to get strong partners to support the device it will definitely do better and probably be a success. There is another question here though, what is Microsoft doing? Will they join the Virtual Reality battle?
